Commercial Projects
European Archaeological Surveyors is a business-centric organisation with specialist expertise in large-scale and small-scale archaeological surveys. We support our clients in mitigating risk and fulfilling their legal obligations by aiding the discovery of new sites, identifying risks to existing heritage assets, and contributing valuable data to the Historic Environment Record in a cost-effective way. Our innovative and precise methodologies ensure the highest data collection and analysis standards, enabling our clients to make confident, informed decisions at the point of purchase or in the planning stages, about development and conservation.
Pre-Purchase Heritage Risk Assessment
With the recent change in government policy towards development, regarding the green belt and housing stock numbers, developers are presented with a significant opportunity that comes with inherent archaeological risk. European Archaeological Surveyors have the knowledge, training, and skills to help developers mitigate risk through pre-purchase Heritage Risk assessment. We are a leading landscape archaeology unit developing methodologies for implementing artificial intelligence within the space. European Archaeological Surveyors aim to use our proficiency in landscape archaeology to help you, the developer, mitigate risk and drive down costs while protecting our shared historic environment, particularly for green site developments. Using these methodologies, we can peel back foliage and provide information on potential archaeological remains, topography, boundaries, and exact area size within hours, informing developers of any risks and future works, without even having to set foot in the site, saving time and money. A full explanation can be found in our white paper, and an example report can be downloaded below.

Heritage at Risk
European Archaeological Surveyors use remote sensing techniques to inform developers about what archaeology is present during the land purchasing stage, without necessarily having to visit the site. This information can then be used to more accurately assess potential project costs as well as provide a more informed negotiating platform.
Boundaries
His Majesty's Land Registry has used Historic Ordnance Survey mapping to identify land boundaries, which, whilst effective, has proved controversial. European Archaeological Surveyors can identify and provide supporting evidence of the project area's true or otherwise contentions boundaries, creating further peace of mind for the client.
Topography
LiDAR is a digital elevation model, providing visualisations of topographic data that can be interpreted quickly. This method can survey wooded or otherwise inaccessible areas, without requiring clearance of shrubbery, etc. Unless a further in-person UAS survey is needed as part of our work, this will have an accuracy of 1 m and is done remotely.
Accurate Project Mapping Services
Because we are able to identify the exact boundaries of the property, we are also able to measure the exact size of said property remotely. Presenting the client with better information with which to make a bid.
Planning Stage Heritage Risk Assessment
European Archaeological Surveyors deliver specialist expertise in large-scale archaeological surveying, supporting the discovery of new sites, identifying risks to existing heritage assets, and contributing valuable data to the Historic Environment Record. Heritage Identification
Our team brings extensive experience, gained through extensive work with developers, commercial archaeology units, and local and national government bodies underpinned by academic training from leading institutions, including the University of Oxford. During the desk-based assessment, this is used to identify all extant archaeology conforming to standards outlined by Historic England and the European Archaeological Council.
Heritage Mitigation
Having identified the archaeological remains extant, we can assess the results to produce a series of recommendations. These recommendations will consider the aims of the client and the heritage identified in the form of a report. This report and the one-metre resolution mapping produced in the identification stage would be provided to the client, placing them in the best position to make decisions.
UK, Europe, and Beyond
European Archaeological Surveyors is proud to have a team of qualified drone pilots servicing the UK, Europe, and beyond. With experience across various projects, industries, and clientele, we bring precision and innovation to every project we undertake. We aim to help our clients reach their commercial or personal goals by discussing what is possible and delivering UAS-based products.
